CUSTOMS DENIES RELEASE OF GAMING MACHINES
The Murtala Mohammed Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has denied media reports that Imports suspected to be Gaming Machine made by Orion Technologies have been released.
The customs area controller of the command, Compt. Idris Suleiman made the clarification while conducting journalists round the seizures effected by his command in the first half of the year.
He disclosed further that the items will remain under customs detention until full investigations on the imports are completed.
Compt. Suleiman stated that 82 seizures were made by the command in the first half of the year 2005. The seizures consist mainly of textiles and shoes falsely declared by the importers as personal effects. He attributed the high seizures figure to the insistence of his officers and men to subject all imports through the command to 100% examination.
The total duty paid value of the seizures is estimated at about 90 million naira.
